Research summary
Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the absence of an external stimulus. Tinnitus is very common with approximately 15.3% of the UK population experiencing prolonged tinnitus with 5.4% considering this bothersome.
The purpose of this study is to find out whether the Oto Tinnitus Programme is as effective at reducing the negative effects of tinnitus as standard Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and to understand the financial implications of both approaches.
The Oto Tinnitus Programme is a digital approach to tinnitus management, delivered as a self-paced smartphone app. It is based on CBT, but also includes education, mindfulness and physical therapy.
