Research summary
Obesity and its related metabolic conditions such as diabetes, forms one of the most important medical problems facing humans today. Investigation of the causes and potential treatments for obesity and its metabolic complications should be a priority.
Aim/rationale: The aim of our study is to undertake a detailed assessment of current human diets with different macronutrient contents and look at metabolism and individual sustainability of these diets in fully consented adult human participants, with a range of metabolic and endocrine conditions and compare these data with data taken from standard healthy eating diet. This project is clinically relevant and the data generated will enable insight into the complex relationships between human obesity, diet, behaviour and metabolism. It will guide future development of novel and sustainable diet therapies and public health strategies for obesity management.
Methodology: The metabolic diet studies will take place in a Human Metabolic Unit within the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS site. Participants following the diets will be followed up in their free living environment too.REC name
