  • Research summary

The study will follow internationally recognised guidelines to develop a patient-reported questionnaire specific to Covid-19. The proposed instrument will assess patients’ perspectives of their functioning, symptoms and general health status. In order to generate questions to be included in the questionnaire the following question will be addressed: What patient-reported health-related quality of life (HRQoL) issues are relevant for individuals with confirmed active or previous COVID-19 disease?”. The development process will involve a number of Phases with the first two Phases the focus of the current study.
In Phase I we will generate relevant issues by reviewing the literature, and interviewing health professionals and patients with experience of Covid-19.
In Phase II, the selected issues will be operationalised into questions following consultation of a library of items or creating bespoke items.
In Phase I, participants will be interviewed (over the phone, or via Microsoft Teams) on one occasion (unless there is a request for breaks) for no more than 60 minutes about their experiences of Covid-19 either as someone who has had a confirmed diagnosis of Covid-19 (currently active or previously diagnosed) or someone who has experience for caring with people who have been diagnosed with Covid-19. Participants can opt to write down their responses to the interview questions to be securely sent or collected by the researcher. This option might be particularly suited to participants who are encountering breathing difficulties and fatigue.
