  • Research summary

This study part of a project to develop a COVID-19 quality of life questionnaire following international guidelines for quality of life questionnaire development. The project is being led by a team in Norway, with centres across Europe and the rest of the world. In Phase 1, the relevant issues were identified through literature reviews and interviews with patients and health care professionals. In Phase 2, issues were operationalised into questionnaire items. This study is Phase 3 and has two parts. In Phase 3A, the questionnaire will be given to patients to identify and solve any potential problems in the wording of the items and to check that there are no missing or redundant items. In Phase 3B, the questionnaire will be given to more patients to do some preliminary psychometric testing of the questionnaire. All patient participants will be aged 18 or older, will have had a positive test for COVID-19 and will have experienced symptoms currently or in the past. They can be recruited from any setting, including hospitals, care homes or their own home, except people who are currently in an intensive care unit. Participants in Phase 3A will be invited to complete the COVID-19 quality of life questionnaire. They will then rate each item for relevance and importance and be asked to comment on other aspects of the questionnaire, including whether any of the items were confusing, or upsetting or overlap with other items. In Phase 3B, participants will be invited to complete the COVID-19 quality of life questionnaire and a debrief questionnaire. Participants in both phases will take part in one interview, either over the phone, via Microsoft Teams, or in writing. Phase 3A interviews are expected to take 60-90 minutes. Phase 3B interviews are likely to take less than 30 minutes.
