Research summary
The proposed study aims to develop and validate a measure of guilt for use with people with dementia (PwD). The study will adopt a two stage design. Firstly a pool of items that adequately capture the experience of guilt in PwD will be generated by drawing on data from a focus group held with PwD discussing their feelings and existing qualitative literature detailing their experiences of living with dementia. The second stage aims to validate the measure of guilt. Firstly, researchers will seek an expert review of the measure from people who are knowledgeable in the content area, including trainee psychologists and qualified clinical psychologists working in dementia services. The measure will then be administered to a sample of PwD alongside a measure of depression in dementia, well-being in dementia to test for validity of the new measure.
