  • Research summary

    Aims

The proposed research aims to develop an integrated care model for the optimisation of care in adults living with T2DM and depression. This study design provides a description of the design and methodology of a mixed methods study on the management of T2DM and depression. The proposed research would investigate the effectiveness and current management plan. The context in which integrated care model for T2DM, and depression will be tested and expected outcomes will influence patient’s health outcomes.

    Method

A mixed method exploratory design will be used for this study as this is the most appropriate research design for studying the development of Integrated Care Model alongside the effectiveness of Type 2 diabetes and depression with its management in the UK. In mixed method, data is collected and analysed, inferences are drawn which integrates findings using both qualitative and quantitative approaches.
This study is sequential therefore data collected from first study will influence the second study (Creswell et al., 2003). Exploratory sequential mixed method is an approach for collecting and analysing qualitative and quantitative data in a sequential manner (Creswell & Plano Clark, 2018).
The first phase will consist of a qualitative study carried out through interviews with patients and professionals, and a second quantitative phase will be influenced by the results of the first phase.
First approach is gaining consent followed by interviews and questionnaires sent to patients and professionals that have indicated interest. Also, consent could be assumed by self-completed forms or participations.
Participants will be free to choose whether they wish to participate or not. Responses would be returned anonymously.
Findings from the questionnaire and interview would be published and shared with appropriate parties. The results will have the potential to be relevant to NHS, agencies, charities, patients and their families to inform future practice, management, and processes.
