Research summary
The study is designed to understand the role and activation of platelets in deep vein thrombosis (clot within the deep veins of the leg). It will do this by studying how these clots look down the microscope, as well as looking at the activation and surface marker expression on the platelets and white blood cells in the clot. Clot samples will be retrieved from adult patients undergoing percutaneous mechanical thrombectomy for deep vein thrombosis affecting the ileofemoral veins. Blood tests will be taken from these patients to look at any markers of clotting/coagulation and compared to other patients who do not have deep vein thrombosis, to help better understand the contributing factors towards clot formation.
