Research summary
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disease which not only shortens life but significantly decreases the quality of life. Therapeutic strategies are multidisciplinary with increasing focus on the role of habitual physical activity and fitness on the progression of this disease. Indeed, a low aerobic fitness has been linked to a poorer prognosis and more rapid progression of the disease. However, before suitable physical activity and/or exercise interventions can be recommended, the true habitual level of activity needs to be determined in this population. Perhaps surprisingly, this fundamental question remains to be addressed.
