Research summary
The project aims to evaluate the potential detection of melanoma within freshly excised skin tissue using Terahertz Pulsed Imaging. This will hopefully lead to a novel medical imaging technique aiding the early diagnosis of this serious cancer. We hope it will also give some information about the depth of the invasion of melanoma which provides prognostic information. The initial study will be carried out on clinically benign melanocytic naevi, as well as melanoma skin tissue. The project is a collaboration with UHL Department of Dermatology, Leicester Royal Infirmary and De Montfort University.
