Research summary
This study follows the publication of early-stage research from academic groups, which from a small participant cohorts reported the ability of algorithms to classify asymptomatic COVID-19 positive patients using audio recordings of forced coughs and other voice recordings. In a data collection study, The Joint Biosecurity Centre will partner with testing sites to collect voice recordings including forced coughs and link to COVID-19 test results. The purpose of this study is to create a research database of voice recordings. This database will be used for the development of COVID-19 screening algorithms, to evaluate existing algorithms from academic and commercial parties, and to determine with an independently collected dataset whether existing algorithms should be considered for a clinical trial and deployment. Participants will receive no feedback based on the data they provide, and no clinical decisions will be made.
