Research summary
Manchester Imaging has developed a CE marked software programme (software medical device) that seeks to detect dental disease, including but not limited to dental caries (tooth decay) and periodontal disease from digital bitewing radiographs (dental x-rays). The software uses machine learning to improve the detection of dental disease. The more images the software learns from the better it becomes at detecting dental disease. This study will collect anonymised digital bitewing radiographs from the patients of UK general dental practitioners (GDPs/dentists) as part of normal standard of care to assist this learning process.
The digital images will be collected from a range of manufacturers/models that represent the majority of scanners commercially-available in the UK.
Manchester Imaging Limited intends to make their software commercially-available in the EU.
