Research summary
Organ fibrosis accounts for an estimated 1/3 of all deaths worldwide. It is associated with ageing and metabolic abnormalities that occur in response to a range of known and unknown genetic and environmental factors.
This is a multi centre descriptive study from clinical patients in the East Midlands (Derby, Burton, Nottingham and Mansfield).
We will identify and approach potential participants with single organ fibrosis (liver, pancreas, lung, bowel, kidney) who are coded as having 2 or more organ fibrosis in the East Midlands from 01 January 2017 to 31st December 2022.
Our aim is to identify patients with 2 or more organ fibrosis to identify common pathways that may be involved in their development, potential biomarkers that may predict their development and shared management strategies. This will serve to reduce the burden of treatment through therapeutic rationalisation as one medication may potentially be beneficial for more than one organ fibrosis, to enable early identification of secondary organ involvement and appropriate risk reduction strategies to increase the health- span of this group of patients
