Research summary
Time to pregnancy is a frequently used measure in epidemiological studies measuring the effects of an exposure. It is equally important in clinical settings when individuals undergo treatments for infertility. There is overwhelming evidence from studies showing the psychological burden associated with delayed TTP (Tarabusi et al., 2004). \n\nOvarian stimulation is routinely used in IVF treatment, aiming to increase the efficacy. It is well established that the number of oocytes retrieved is an important prognostic variable for IVF success in terms of live birth in a fresh cycle (Sunkara et al., 2011; Steward et al., 2014) cumulative live birth rate (Polyzos et al., 2018, Law et al., 2019).\n\nThe aim of our study is to determine the association between number of oocytes retrieved and time to occurrence of the first live birth (TTLB) following completion of IVF treatment. Since patients may not achieve a pregnancy within their first attempt at IVF, we will include subsequent IVF cycles to determine if the TTLB in these patients and also take into account that may have required these patients to seek subsequent stimulation cycles.
