Research summary
The study will show if overnight variations in blood levels of chemical messengers (called cytokines) which cause or reduce inflammation in polymyalgia rheumatica, are changed by taking a new timed release tablet that provides a dose of the glucocorticoid (steroid) prednisone at 2am. It will also find out if blood cytokines levels are related to the hormones of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, which is the body's natural system for producing and controlling glucocorticoid productions.
