Research summary
Cerebral palsy is a lifelong physical disability which affects around 130,000 adults in the UK. Despite the number of adults impacted by ageing with cerebral palsy there is a lack of specialised care for adults ageing with cerebral palsy and a lack of research that seeks to understand their ageing needs. The aim of this study is to better understand the ageing experience of adults with cerebral palsy and the community-level support that they currently have and feel that they would need to support them to age well. We will interview 15-20 adults aged 40 or older with cerebral palsy from London about ageing and community support. The information we get from this study will allow us to better understand what kinds of community support people ageing with cerebral palsy value and what support they feel they need. This information will be used to help create training for a specialised link worker who will work in the North Central London area in 2025-2026.
