Research summary
COVID-19 has been found to disproportionately affect people from Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups in the UK. Therefore, the aim of the international, collaborative COVINFORM consortium, of which Swansea University leads the study in Wales, is to investigate how COVID-19 and its responses affect the experiences of vulnerable groups; particularly those who have living conditions such as leading nomadic lifestyles, living in health care facilities, and being separated from their family whilst working in relatively high-risk jobs. In particular, the study focuses on the health and healthcare circumstances of BAME overseas qualified nurses, Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller communities, and people with learning disabilities during the coronavirus pandemic in Wales. It entails in-depth interviews with BAME overseas qualified nurses and with healthcare staff with responsibility over parts of the pandemic regulation in South Wales. BAME overseas qualified nurses are also invited to take part in creative workshops to express aspects of life in pandemic times through means other than words.
In this IRAS form we are seeking consent to interview NHS staff only. These are: BAME overseas qualified nurses, healthcare managers, and NHS staff who work with BAME overseas qualified nurses, people with learning difficulties, and Gypsies, Roma and Travellers.
