    Research Summary
COVID-PREP is a representative community cohort of pregnant women from two years 2019 and 2020 who chose for their maternity care to be given at Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust. All women will have provided a routine blood sample as part of their booking assessment, some of this sample is used for standard screening and some is stored for potential future need. Here, we are requesting to use 500UL of each sample in order to test for the presence of Coronavirus (also called SARS-COV-2) in this group of women. We will also link the test finding with routine data provided by women as part of their normal maternity care. This will allow us to (1) determine the proportion of SARS-COV-2 in this group of women, (2) examine any differences we find in relation to those reported in national and international data and (3) assess the risk of SARS-COV-2 on the mother and her baby. The use of routine data will allow us to examine general pregnancy outcomes. All women would be eligible to be included in the study, excluding those who have actively ‘opted-out’ of the local trust Privacy Notice. All data and samples used as part of this study will be anonymised. [Study relying on COPI notice]

    Summary of Results
Due to a lack of SARS-CoV-2 testing capacity at the regional NHS provider owing to additional pressures on their service relating to the pandemic, the sample retrieval and analysis phase of this study could not be delivered in line with the original timeframe proposed. A non-cost extension was considered, however due to the rapid advancement in the understanding of COVID-19 and the extensive research already performed, it was unlikely that the findings of this study would add any further scientific value and the decision was made to terminate the study.
