  This is an observational retrospective multicenter European study aiming at evaluating the outcome of COVID-19 patients affected by acute respiratory distress syndrome and supported by extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) as rescue therapy. The beneficial role of ECMO support in this cohort of patients has not established yet, and this study will be the first attempting to address this issue in a large cohort of patients recruited from high-volume ECMO units.
