Research summary
This multi-centre observational study seeks to find out the amount of clinician time it takes to assess a child for possible Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and from this to calculate resulting costs to the NHS. 25 Child Development Centres (CDC) from across the UK will be asked to collect retrospective (from the past) data on 20 consecutive children referred with possible ASD. Data will include time taken at initial developmental clinic, and subsequent diagnostic clinics, who was involved at each stage, and at what pay grade.
A sub group of around 5 participating centres will also test the feasibility of prospective (at the time) data collection.REC name
