Research summary
We are doing research on male genital lichen sclerosis, which affects the genital skin and leads to a significant impact in quality of life. Lichen sclerosis is a chronic, inflammatory skin disorder of an unknown cause. Lichen sclerosis affects up to 3% of women and 0.07% in men. Male Genital lichen sclerosis affects intimate areas and can lead to significant affectation of the quality of life. Recently the Vulval disease Quality of Life Index (VQLI) was used to demonstrate that the clinician-rated severity correlates with the impact of vulval lichen sclerosis on Quality of life, however no studies have been conducted using a similar tool in men with genital lichen sclerosis. Our aim is to modify the VQLI questionnaire to a genital disease quality of life index (GQLI) and use this to assess the correlation between clinician-rated disease severity with the impact of male genital lichen sclerosis on Quality of life (QoL).
