Research summary
The Coronavirus Multinational Observational Registry (CORONATION) aims to establish a multi-national registry of confirmed Covid-19 patients.
A novel coronavirus, COVID-19, was detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, China and has since spread worldwide and has been classed as a pandemic. It is crucial to collect data from patients infected by this virus at the point of presentation to acute care. This data will be used for further clinical research such as; to identify patterns and predictors of the disease progression, help set-up and deliver observational and interventional studies, evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on healthcare systems and resources.
All positive COVID-19 cases are eligible for inclusion. Patients with confirmed COVID-19 will be directly enrolled into the CORONATION Registry by clinical members of their direct care team. This will take place when a patient presents with COVID-19 symptoms and a COVID-19 test has been undertaken. Consent from patients will not be required in order for them to be entered under the Covid-19 – Notice under Regulation 3(4) of the Health Service Control of Patient Information Regulations 2002, followed by a Section 251 waiver of consent post 30 September 2020.
For UK patients, supporting healthcare data will be captured from routine data collection sources such as Public Health England and NHS Digital.
The CORONATION Registry will remain open for enrolment for as long as COVID-19 remains a clinical concern as an ongoing pandemic. Participants will be followed for up to 5 years initially, and may be approached for longer follow-up if required.
