Research summary
Memory disorders are common in the UK and their symptoms cause significant problems for suffers in their day to day life. The purpose of the study is to assess the subtle differences in the brain between patients with memory problems and people without. It will study a group of 20-25 patients with memory problems and a group of 20-25 healthy volunteers, aged 40 years or over. This project will use non-invasive magnetic resonance brain imaging (MRI) to look at changes in different parts of the brain in people with memory deficits. Using the imaging pictures obtained, we will also look at the connections between these brain regions. We hope this will allow us to better understand the causes of memory problems in conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease. The study will take place in Oxford and is financed by the Wellcome Trust and Alzheimer’s Research UK.
