  • Research summary

COMPOSEd is a study of patients' and healthcare professionals' experiences and opinions of diabetes and blood pressure management after a stroke. The study will use focus groups as the main method of data collection. It will be guided by an approach know as 'grounded theory'. This approach seeks to build and develop themes from the discussions and responses of the participants of the focus groups. Additionally, the researchers will explore with both stoke survivors and healthcare professionals their thoughts on how acceptable certain aspects of new diabetes and blood pressure management techniques currently in development are to them.

The focus groups will be carried out in Aneurin Bevan Health Board (ABUHB) and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. A total of 52 participants will be recruited for the focus groups.

Stroke survivors will be approached by the research team as members of their clinical care team to take part in the study. Primary and secondary health care professionals will be approached through professional networks and as members of special interest groups.

The results of this study will form a peer reviewed journal publication and may inform the direction of future clinical research into co-morbidity management after a stroke.
