Research summary
This study will investigate the complications and maintenance associated with Locator retained 2-implant mandibular overdentures. Locator attachments are nylon inserts which retain the denture on the head of the implant. This type of treatment is relatively cost effective and popular. However, it is associated with a certain amount of ongoing maintenance such as replacement of worn inserts and relining or repair of the denture. There is very little published research which quantifies the amount of maintenance required. This study aims to provide this evidence by recalling all patients who had such treatment at the Eastman Dental Hospital between 2005-2015 in order to examine their dentures and record the complications and maintenance they experienced.
