Research summary
This case study research focuses on elderly residents of very sheltered housing within Aberdeen City who have been identified as in need of help in managing their medications. In particular, the research will focus on residents who, following referral to the Care Management Team, have their medication dispensed in a multi-compartment compliance aid, a box for organising their pills. It is not clear how, when and why residents are referred for help, if any assessments are carried out, who is involved in the decision-making process and any subsequent reviews. We will collect data from a number of sources including: a review of residents care documents, observation of the patient and their carer's use of the multi-compartment compliance aid followed by interviews with the residents and their formal and informal carers, care managers, general practitioners and community pharmacists.
