  • Research summary

The research is to look at simulation as a teaching aid in medicine compared to traditional lecture based teaching.

There will be two groups of doctors, one will have traditional lecture based teaching and second group will have simulation teaching. They will then be given a brief test post teaching sessions. This will help us determines if there is a difference in data acquisition and retention between the two groups.

Patient notes will then be reviewed to determine any difference in management of Gout following the two group teaching sessions.

Overall aims of the research are:

    1. Demonstrate that simulation methodology can be used to teach doctors to manage patients with Gout.
    2. Compare effectiveness of simulation methodology to traditional teaching methods in the area of Gout management in three areas
    a. Short term retention of knowledge
    b. Long term retention of knowledge
    c. Change in patient management
