Research summary
Physical activity is an important part of a healthy lifestyle, and many people with type 1 diabetes exercise regularly. The purpose of the proposed research is to work out how the different long-acting insulins commonly used for treatment in type 1 diabetes affect metabolism during exercise in this group. Comparison will be made of the effects of 4 weeks of treatment with insulin glargine and insulin detemir, on changes in blood glucose, rates of low blood glucose and hormones and other substances involved in metabolism for a group of 30 people both before and after exercise.
