  • Data collection arrangements

Tissue and other biospecimens will be stored in the Centre for Women's Health Research laboratory facility which has card access entry. Frozen samples are stored in a keypad controlled room.
Consent forms and hard copies of clinicodemographic data are stored in a locked filing cabinet within a keypad controlled room.
Identifiable data is stored on LWFT servers with limited password protected access, while anonymised data may be stored on University of Liverpool computer systems.
Informed consent will be taken by designated Research Practitioners and by GCP trained doctors working in the Trust. Written information about the RTB will be given to women who are to have planned procedures in the preoperative clinic. When women return for their procedure, written informed consent will be taken prior to the woman going into theatre by the Research Midwife or doctor. The PIS/consent forms (enclosed) clearly state that the donated tissue will be used/stored in a tissue bank and used for unspecified future research studies.

  • Research programme

The Research Tissue Bank at Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust collects and stores tissue taken at hospital attendance, admissions or at surgery for research. By doing this the research tissue bank is able to build up a valuable collection of biological specimens that will be used by research groups investigating the process of female reproductive health (including pregnancy, labour and its complications as well as other diseases affecting the female reproductive system such as heavy menstrual bleeding). It is hoped that the resulting knowledge will help other women in the future by helping us to find new treatments.
