  • Data collection arrangements

At the Centre for Women's Health Research at the University of Liverpool, we store tissue, blood, and other biological samples in the Liverpool Women's Research
Tissue Bank (LWRTB). We also collect important clinical information related to the donor, which is securely stored in an encrypted database. Only authorized LWRTB
staff have access to this information and are responsible for maintaining and updating it. All samples are labeled with a unique code, ensuring that only LWRTB staff can link them back to individual donors.

Potential donors may be approached by a member of the clinical care team or an LWRTB staff member during their scheduled outpatient clinic appointment or inpatient admission. They will provide them with a patient information sheet that explains the purpose of the LWRTB and what it means to donate. If they decide to donate, the LWRTB will work with the clinical team to obtain consent, collect the samples, and store them securely in the LWRTB.

  • Research programme

The LWRTB supports multiple academic groups in the Department of Women's and Children's Health at the University of Liverpool, but is also open to other collaborators both in the UK and abroad. The Research Tissue Bank will be an invaluable resource for studying the female reproductive system and related conditions like ectopic pregnancy, preterm labor, recurrent miscarriage, infertility, endometriosis, and endometrial cancer. Patient focus groups have shown that many women are eager to support research by donating biological samples. By using these samples, researchers can gain a better understanding of these conditions and work towards developing new and more effective ways to diagnose, treat, and prevent them in the future.
