Research summary
After COVID-19 infection, some people may experience cognitive problems (e.g. with their memory, attention and ability to perform tasks). We wish to understand the scale of cognitive problems in people after COVID, and how long these problems might last.
To help us answer some of these questions, we will test the patients' memory and mental abilities using a computer, tablet or smartphone. There will also be questionnaires about their mood, activities of daily living, and general well-being. We plan to test them at 3-6 months, and again at 12 months, after hospital discharge.
We will also look at their clinical details about their hospital stay. We will then compare all of these findings between those who have proven COVID vs. those with non-COVID respiratory infections. We will also compare patients who were mechanically ventilated in Intensive Care Unit vs. those who were not, because this might also influence our findings. In total, we plan to study around 400 patients.
