  • Research summary

This project falls into the two broad categories of developing novel cardivascular megnetic resonance (CMR) imaging sequence and advancing data processing techniques. The aims of sequence development are to weight the signal of interest (contrast), as rapidly as possible (speed), while limiting the artifacts and enhancing the resolution and signal to noise ratio for improved image quality. CMR data processing is vital to interpret the acquired images and usually involves advanced mathematical modelling, signal processing, and image processing. Validation of the sequence designs and data processing techniques will be performed by linking the developments into subject and clinical studies on a variety of normal subjects and patients with cardiovascular diseases.

The development of sequences and techniques is an on-going process that requires scanning of subjects on a regular basis. The total number of subjects is expected to be several hundred per year. There are three groups of participants:

    • Normal volunteers
    • Patients

The patient group will be split into two sub groups:

    • Patients who are already having a clinical scan
    • Patients who are known to have a condition suitable for testing a particular imaging technique
