Research summary
Aim: To explore clinician attitudes towards using low dose radiotherapy to treat COVID-19 lung disease.
Low dose radiotherapy is used to treat non-malignant inflammatory diseases and has been reported in case series as an effective treatment for viral pneumonia. This research group plans to develop and co-ordinate a clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of low dose lung radiotherapy for patients with COVID-19 lung disease. However, we recognised that this is a novel concept and to understand if developing a trial is reasonable and will be feasible we believe it is important to explore attitudes of frontline medical staff towards this treatment in order to identify any barriers to trial set-up or recruitment that could be pro-actively addressed in advance.
