Research summary
Background:
Questionnaires and Patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) are extremely useful tools for assessing patients in the clinical setting and predicting outcomes and treatment responses. Many of the existing questionnaires such as many smell questionnaires do not incorporate important aspects such as COVID-19 related aspects, etc. This study focuses on the testing of questionnaires both validated and newer updated questionnaires in the clinical setting within Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgery and related subspecialities .
Material and methods
Surveys will be designed in a currently widely accepted and standardised five-phase approach utilising the following: development, selection and formulation of items, pilot testing, field testing and data analysis with the main aspect of the design, development and statistical analysis performed at and led by UCL, with the involvement of Homerton Healthcare NHS Trust for which local Research & Development approval will be sought. The primary aim of the study is for to validate clinical questionnaires in the ENT and related subspeciality clinics. Secondary aims include can the validated questionnaires be used to assess surgical and patient outcomes in a retrospective study using these validated questionnaires.Expected Results
The results of the study will aid in the validation of questionnaires, assessment of symptom severity, treatment escalation and surgical planning in ENT and related subspeciality clinics.Expected Outcome
This will help to test new/updated questionnaires and allow for validation of these to undergo all the necessary validation steps for use of either paper or electronic versions of the questionnaires in the clinical setting. With the use of validated questionnaires to monitor practise and patient outcomes in ENT and related subspeciality clinics. This will allow clinicians to audit practice and monitor patient outcomes.REC name
