  • Research summary

Rhinitis affects up to 40% of preschool children and causes significant morbidity as well as impacting on quality of the life. Allergic rhinitis is not only reasons to have rhinitis in children especially in preschool children. The diagnosis as well as management of rhinitis in preschool children is challenging and little data exists. Medical literature shows that allergic rhinitis in young children is commonly under-diagnosed or misdiagnosed. Once diagnoses there are several treatment options available. The effectiveness of medication used has not been studied in depth within this age group.

This study aims to collect data about past and present clinical symptoms, treatment and response to treatment in order to gain a better understanding of rhinitis in preschool children. All preschool children diagnosed with rhinitis in Leicester Royal infirmary paediatric allergic service between 2012 and 2015 will be our target population.
