Research summary
The considerations for direct and indirect tooth-coloured posterior restorations are ever increasing. There is limited clinical evidence comparing direct composite, indirect composite resin, all-ceramic systems and porcelain fused to metal crowns.
Information will be gathered of 4 clinical cases where an tooth coloured restoration on a posterior tooth is indicated. Data gathered will include patients age, sex, relevant dental history, impression of tooth, clinical images and duplicates of relevant radiographs. This will be provided to 60 qualified dentists for assessment where a questionnaire will be provided. 30 specialists and 30 general dentists will make up the total of dentist participants. These dentist participants will be from different services including hospital dental services, community dental services, general dental services in practice as well as the private practice setting.
The study aims include assessment of different clinical features that have an impact on clinical decisions for tooth coloured restorations of posterior teeth. The study revolves around a questionnaire sent to different groups of dentists. This will help develop guidelines when assessing teeth for tooth coloured restorations for posterior teeth.
