  • Research summary

This study will investigate treatment outcome of patients with gender dysphoria. Individuals with gender dysphoria feel that their gender identity is different from the sex they were born with; many describe it as being born in the wrong body. The main aim of the study is to identify which factors are significantly associated with treatment outcome among a sample of patients attending a national gender identity clinic for gender dysphoria. Potential factors include age of onset of gender dysphoria, experiences of transphobia, quality of life, mental health, self-esteem, self-harm, body image, social support, and interpersonal functioning. These factors have been selected through an extensive review of the literature on treatment outcome in transgender studies as well as through discussion with clinicians who have expertise in the field of gender dysphoria. Participants will be invited to complete a questionnaire pack containing a set of demographic questions and several questionnaires concerning quality of life, mental health, self-harm, self-esteem, body image, social support, and interpersonal functioning.
