  • Research summary

Since the introduction of endovascular repair of aortic aneurysm (EVAR) which is a minimally invasive treatment technique the mortality and morbidity rates improved when compared to previous open repair. One common observation after the endovascular treatment is a systemic inflammatory response called post stent implantation syndrome in which a systemic inflammatory process happens in the body in response to the aneurysm sac clotting off and gets sealed off from blood flow. There are very limited studies with small numbers of patients published in the literature with no analysis done to investigate whether this systemic response has any effects to patients or the stent itself.
We are going to compare two groups of patients by using blood tests only which are going to be done along the routine EVAR follow up. First group are patients with conventional stent graft which leaves the aneurysm sac filled with blood that clots off and the second group are patients treated with a special stent called NELLIX stent which doesn't leave large area to clot off inside the sac and we will compare and analyse the results from both groups and see if there is any adverse effects both on patients or stent implantation.
