  • Data collection arrangements

We are writing to people aged 60-85 to invite them to join a research registry focussing on Alzheimer’s disease and its prevention. If an individual consents to join the research registry, we will collect their name, address, telephone number, email address, date of birth, NHS number, gender and ethnicity from their GP record.\n

  • Research programme

Over 800,000 people in the UK currently suffer from dementia. In the years ahead, this number is expected to rise, this is because ageing is the main risk factor for developing dementia and people are generally living longer. [COVID-19 amendment 29/04/2020] We would like to add a new study invitation letter - the CHARIOT COVID-19 Rapid Reponse Study (CCRR) Invitation Letter version 1.3 dated 27 April 2020 - to the CHARIOT Register study documents in order to invite CHARIOT Register participants to take part in the CHARIOT COVID-19 Rapid Response Study. The CHARIOT COVID-19 Rapid Response Study has been ethically approved by the local Imperial College London Research Ethics Committee. This letter has also received their approval for use, but as we intend to send this out directly to our CHARIOT Register members rather than utilising the current CHARIOT Study Invitation Letter, we would like to request HRA REC approval for this. This letter has been formatted to be in line with our current CHARIOT Study Invitation Letter to ensure consistency with the different Register study documents. \nThis Substantial Amendment is for COVID-19 research on the impact of the disease on older population and their mental well-being. CHARIOT Register (a research database) members have consented to be contacted about research into healthy ageing.
