Research summary
The aim of this study is to investigate whether cognitive functions (skills such as attention and reaction time) are affected by having multiple myeloma and receiving treatment for multiple myeloma. In order to determine this we need to assess a range of cognitive skills and be able to compare the results to individuals of a similar age that do not have multiple myeloma. We know that some of the biological changes that happen when an individual has myeloma can cause changes to their physical health including changes that make them more frail. Many of these changes also have the potential to affect cognitive function but this has not previously been investigated. Understanding whether cognitive changes occur in myeloma, what causes them and how this is impacted by treatment will help us develop better ways to treat myeloma.
