Research summary
The Covid-19 pandemic required a rapid and widespread response across the NHS. Medical staff were redeployed to areas of increased clinical need forcing suspension of some NHS services, for others new models of care and service provision had to be swiftly developed and instigated. Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) have been an established part of the medical workforce for many years whilst- the role of Physician Associates (PAs) is newer in the UK- but becoming more established. Using questionnaires and a series of structured interviews we aim to explore whether these roles have changed as part of the response to the Covid-19 pandemic and whether these changes should be continued or developed further.
