Research summary
CE-MARC was the first large-scale trial of Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (CMR) for the diagnosis of stable coronary heart disease. 752 patients with suspected stable angina were recruited from March 2006 to August 2009, and underwent imaging with CMR, SPECT (single-photon emission computed tomography) and X-Ray coronary angiography. Patients were followed up for 3 years for major cardiovascular events. The trial established the superior diagnostic accuracy of CMR over SPECT and was published in the Lancet (1).
The CEMARC study protocol allows for recording of mortality through ONS flagging for an indefinite period. The proposed new study will collect long-term cardiovascular outcome data on the patient cohort for a period of 10 years.1.
