Research summary
CARPERS is an observational study aiming to analyse CAR-T cell persistence over time. It will be offered to patients with a clinical indication for the commercially available CAR-T cell Tisagenlecleucel (Kymriah). Tisagenlecleucel has been shown to be highly effective in treating leukaemias and lymphomas that haven’t responded or came back after standard chemotherapy. CAR-T cells work for around 80 to 90% of patients initially, however in half of them the response is not long-lasting, and leukaemia returns. One of the reasons is thought to be the loss of CAR-T cells from the body, and this study aims to find out why that happens.
We will use blood samples from 50 prospectively recruited patients. Samples will be taken at registration, on the day of the CAR-T infusion and 6 more times over 12 months following the infusion. The collection timepoints have been aligned with clinic visits patients would normally attend, taking part in this study will involve minimal additional burden to patients.
