  • Research summary

The study will be undertaken at Bolton and Wythenshawe hospitals in the Vascular Ultrasound departments. Patients who are referred for an Ultrasound scan to assess Carotid arteries in the neck (which supply blood to the brain) will be approached to have the scan performed with them lay supine as is the current clinical protocol. The scan will be repeated with the patient seated to determine if speed of measured blood flow is the same. This is important as the % narrowing of the artery is partly determined by the change in the speed of blood flow through the narrowed section of artery.
