Research summary
The aim of this study is to identify whether there is a difference in the concentration of glucose (sugar) measured in the blood that comes from a capillary (finger-prink sample) and blood that comes from a vein in the arm in health and disease when processed using a blood gas analyser. The secondary aims of this study are to determine the variability sodium, potassium, haemoglobin, bicarbonate and lactate concentrations between capillary blood samples and venous blood samples and whether patients have a preference for one testing method over another.
