  • Research summary

The aim of this study is to explore the experiences of bystanders to domestic violence and abuse during the COVID-19 pandemic as these may differ to pre-COVID times due to the governmental guidelines of "stay home".
To capture the bystander's experiences, online surveys will be conducted to identify any factors related to bystander experience of domestic violence and abuse in Wales during COVID-19. For more in depth data, interviews will also be conducted with a small sample of the participants who completed the online survey. This will allow for further exploration of their actions, thoughts and feelings towards the domestic violence and abuse that they witnessed.
This study has been funded to run until March 2021 and aims to collect survey data from 2000 people, and interview data from 20 participants.
The proposed outcomes from this study are to inform policy, training and funding for domestic violence prevention measures across Wales, and possibly the UK.
