Research summary
Artificial Intelligence (AI) packages are available that can assess an individual's risk of developing breast cancer based on their mammography images. This alongside demographic and clinical risk factors could be used to stratify women into high and low risk groups for a risk-based screening approach.
This survey will assess the views of women attending for routine breast screening within the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, NHS Grampian, on potential changes to breast screening and identify the kinds of information that would find most helpful when modifying the service.
The survey has been implemented digitally on the University of Aberdeen SNAP survey software. Women attending for screening will watch an introductory video, and then answer questions on an iPad. The aim is to recruit at least 377 participants by September 2024. Analysis will be undertaken in a statistical analysis software such as R. Free text responses will be summarized using content analysis.
The proposed study has been funded by NHS endowments for the purchase of 3 tablets and additional and costs of video production (£2,550).
