Research summary
Social drinking is very common and for many people it does not cause any problems, but for some people it can. Alcohol has many effects on the brain that are not fully understood. Whilst some people drink alcohol purely for enjoyment, the more they use alcohol, the greater effect alcohol has on the brain. In general, the more people drink over time, the greater the risk of problems in later life. This research aims to study the way alcohol affects the brain to allow better understanding of why people drink alcohol.
