Research summary
Blood glucose monitoring technology has developed over the past decade to allow blood glucose readings to be taken more frequently and without the need for repeated daily finger-prick injections. As the technology has become more readily available to patients and, therefore, more widely used, it is helpful for service providers to gain an understanding of the implications of this technology on quality of life. The technology has been assessed as effective for managing glucose control, but it would be useful to know if it is acceptable to patients. Paediatric patients who have been using the technology for at least 6 months will be approached to participate. We would also like to understand the comparative experience of caregivers, so patient/parent pairs will be recruited. A brief questionnaire regarding diabetic quality of life will be followed by a semi structured interview lasting up to an hour. This will take place in a neutral location such as an nhs setting. If COVID-19 prevents face to face contact then telephone interviews will be recorded with participant consent.
