Research summary
It has been established in the literature that IVF-conceived offspring present differences in health outcomes in early life when compared to spontaneously-conceived offspring. However, no direct causal links between specific IVF laboratory parameters and child health outcomes have been robustly established. The aim of this study is to determine whether specific laboratory procedures, reagents, or treatments are associated with post-natal outcomes by aggregating data collected from multiple clinics regarding these laboratory factors and birth weight within the IVF-conceived population. The overall goal is to identify associations between IVF laboratory parameters and offspring birth weight whilst accounting for, as far as possible, known confounders (e.g., maternal age, infertility diagnosis, parity, ethnicity, etc.), effect modifiers (e.g., embryo freezing, number of embryos transferred, ovarian stimulation, etc.), and variation in practices between clinics.
