  • Research summary

We have collected urine from patients with advanced cancer towards the end of life from 2 prior studies. Unfortunately, during a recent HTA inspection of the University, they informed us that our prior REC approvals were no longer valid. The law changed during covid. The recruitment to our studies also stopped during covid. At the time it was not possible to analyse the samples. We therefore don’t have current ethics to analyse the samples.
From the work so far, we have identified multiple metabolites that change in the last weeks and days of life. We have submitted a patent on these and are in the process of developing a hospital based test.
This proposal is a request to further analyse existing samples that are stored at the University of Liverpool.
